Cheap and Cheerful Christmas 2012

This year I decided to celebrate Cheap and Cheerful Christmas by not buying new (to me) decorations unless they came from a charity shop.  My favorite is one that benefits our local Animal Shelter... sometimes it's chicken (lots of goodies), sometimes feathers (I walk out empty handed).  But it's always interesting to see what others have donated and to drop off my own donations.

I started looking at Christmas goodies when the Christmas section first opened in October and through the weeks have bought several items that grace my home this holiday season.  I have snowman plates for Christmas dinner, two large Patience Brewster Christmas tree pieces that sit on stairs on my step cabinet, and smaller ceramics I put together in a tabletop Christmas scene.  In my kitchen are Christmas cookie cutters and cookie stamps, and a festive Irish linen tea towel.  What I paid was money well spent for animal care; and for me, years of future Christmas enjoyment.

I dug into my Christmas box for the tree topper bows from last year I hang on my doors in place of holiday wreaths, the holiday doormats purchased two years ago, and of course, my bottle tree.  I can't have Christmas without a bottle tree.  Mine is a large Tanqueray bottle (labels removed), with a red bow around its neck, and a string of white twinkle lights stuffed inside...it looks like a bottle full of fireflies.  Cheap and very cheerful.

However you celebrate this season, may it give you joy; and may your new year be one of peace and prosperity.
